Dream Lake (A visit at the home and studio of the architect Ernst Schwadron), 2012
10 Pigmented prints on Hahnemühle paper, 35.5 x 53 cm und 35.5 x 27.5 cm
Fotos: Walter Sanders;
At the end of the 1940's Schwadron built a home for himself and his second wife Gladys upstate New York. During my research I found a series of unpublished photographs by Walter Sanders for a homestory in LIFE magazine. The photographs show Ernst and Gladys Schwadron in their home and studio "Dream Lake" in Cold Spring: Schwadron posing in a traditional Austrian suit on the couch in the living room, dressed casually in a checkered shirt at his work bench in the basement, the couple having dinner on the terrace, or sitting on a bench overlooking their home and Dream Lake… In a fictitious lay-out for LIFE I used a selection of these photographs and combined them with an interview I did with Schwadron's niece Bobby Lach in Connecticut in October 2011. The "magazine spreads" were presented on the "silver wall" in the exhibition at BAWAG, and printed as a insert in the catalogue accompanying the show.
Silberwand / Silver wall, 2012 Wall paint, 524 x 450 cm
A quote of a Schwadron interior, the silver wall references silver walls in two Vienna apartments Schwadron designed, one for the Dozsa family in 1933 and another for the Wittels family in 1934.
