Starring TV clips
6 clips, 10-15 sec each, 1998; produced
for *imo/collecting television
In 1998 I organized an audition for a non-commercial
music video through ads in the "Village Voice" and "Backstage".
The dancers and singers were asked to prepare one song/track of their
choice.
From the footage shot at the audition I edited 6 (each 10-15 sec. long)
clips as commercials (inserts
for TV programs). The clips were aired on TIV channel, a Viennese cable
station in May and June of 1999.
The work is based on the idea of a music video that leaves out all commercial
and promotional aspects but concentrates merely on the performers and
their acting: An analysis of the acquisition of stereotypes and patterns
represented in Pop-, Rap- and HipHop-culture through the media (like in
music videos on MTV, shows ...) recognizable in body-language, mimics
and gestures... A study of personal and individual style, self-representation
and self-portrayal of the performer/dancer/singer (in the sense of a portrait);
about the situation of the audition: to market and promote oneself (how
do I get the job?).
Concept, Camera, Editing: Heidrun Holzfeind;
*imo/collecting television is a project of Ricarda Denzer and Ruth Kaaserer.
